Dressmaking 2- Simply Stylish sleeveless shift
This year fashion is still swinging with 60's style. With TV shows like Mad men and The kennedys influencing the catwalk, it's the perfect opportunity to make a wardrobe staple - the super sexy shift
This is the perfect class to learn how to really get to grips with dressmaking and fitting patterns. 30% of dressmaking is fitting time! The course is in 3 sessions, 1 full day on the first weekend and a half day on the following weekend
- Here's what you'll need to bring along on the day-
-
2.30m of 115cm wide or 1.60m of 150cm wide fabric for the dress, and the same quantity for the lining, if you'd like to line your dress. Fabrics suitable for the dress are woven fabrics like mid weight cotton and cotton blends, light weight wool and cords, mid weight denim, linen and linen blends.
For the lining use a satin or acetate lining, or a brem silk anti static lining. It's best not to line in cotton, or polycotton
You'll also need a 22 inch invisible/concealed zip in a matching shade to your outer fabric, and a reel of matching thread if you've picked an unusual colour that we may not have at the studio.
Ideally you should at least steam press both the lining and the fabric before the class, and I always pre-wash fabric (if it's washable) before cutting to ensure no shrinking after it's made up.
- You'll be provided again with a list of supplies you'll need on your booking confirmation e mail. We can only offer a limited selection of fabrics to buy on the day.
- Once your project is cut out you'll be shown how to do you the tricky bits like inserting linings or facings and invisible zips.
- There will be some "homework" between sessions to ensure you can get your dress completed
- Throughout the course there will several fittings to ensure your dress is a perfect fit.
- At the Thrifty studio you have access to a custom built cutting area, so no cutting out on the living room floor! We also have lovely Janome sewing machines and all the haberdashery and sewing tools you will need throughout the day.
Pattern, Tools, use of equipment and interfacings included, just bring enough fabric and notions ( zip & Thread) to make your dress. A limited selection of fabrics and notions can be bought from us on the day.
